Artist Statement:
Leigh Davenport is a printmaker who works primarily with etching, collegraph and silkscreen to produce abstract works that are layered and complex. Her prints deal with the concepts of biological information transfer and the consequences of interrupted and distorted communication at both a micro and macro level. Printing image over text and texture partially obscures each layer, breaking down the levels of communication between the artist and the audience. This mirrors the compounding tiny imperfections in the transfer of information around the nervous system.
Leigh uses a palette of natural, earthy tones to draw attention to the natural landscape-like forms of the body at a micro level. She draws inspiration from a personal interest in human biology and medicine.
